Your First Visit

What to Expect
Your first visit is designed to help us understand your health history, identify the root cause of your symptoms, and begin treatment right away.
Plan to spend about 80 minutes at the clinic for your first appointment.

Step 1: Schedule Your Appointment

Booking is simple.
Schedule online and we will send everything you need to prepare for your first visit.
If you have questions about whether acupuncture or herbal medicine may help your condition, our team is happy to assist. You can also schedule a free 15-minute consultation to speak directly with an acupuncturist about your situation.

Step 2: Detailed Assessment & Personalized Treatment Plan

At your first visit, your acupuncturist will perform a thorough assessment including:
  • Your current symptoms
  • Medical history
  • Lifestyle and health patterns
  • Your goals for treatment
From there we identify the root cause of your condition and design a treatment plan specifically for you.
You will receive your first acupuncture treatment during this visit, and many patients find the experience so relaxing that they fall asleep.
Your personalized treatment plan may include:
  • Acupuncture
  • Herbal medicine
  • Dietary guidance
  • Lifestyle recommendations
All recommendations are designed to address the underlying cause of your symptoms, not just temporary relief.

Step 3: Start Feeling Better

Most patients begin with regular visits, often twice per week at first, so we can closely support your body as it starts establishing a new pattern of health.
During the early phase of treatment, patients often notice:
  • Reduced pain or symptoms
  • Improved sleep and relaxation
  • More mental clarity and energy
  • Better mood and resilience
Many patients notice improvements within 1–3 treatments.
Around 6 visits, improvements often begin lasting longer between sessions. At this stage we may begin spacing treatments further apart.
After 8–12 visits, many patients reach a deeper level of healing and resilience. Visits may then transition to maintenance care every few weeks or as needed.
Some patients choose to continue regular visits for preventive care and long-term wellness.

How Acupuncture Works

Acupuncture works by improving circulation and activating the body’s natural healing response.
Traditional Chinese medicine describes illness as a result of blockages or imbalances in the body. When circulation becomes restricted, symptoms like pain, inflammation, fatigue, or illness can develop.
Modern research supports this idea. Studies show acupuncture can:
  • Increase circulation
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Release natural pain-relieving chemicals
  • Balance hormones
  • Calm the nervous system
  • Support immune function
By restoring proper circulation and communication throughout the body, acupuncture helps your body heal itself naturally.

Does Acupuncture Hurt?

Most people are surprised by how gentle and relaxing acupuncture treatments feel.
The needles used are ultra-thin—about the width of a human hair. They are sterile, single-use, and safely disposed of after each treatment.
During treatment you will rest comfortably on a treatment table for about 30 minutes.
Many patients experience sensations such as:
  • Warmth
  • Tingling
  • Heaviness
  • Lightness
  • Deep relaxation
These are normal signs that the body is responding and rebalancing.
Many patients say their acupuncture appointment becomes the most relaxing part of their week.

Our Style of Acupuncture

At Thrive we practice a specialized form of acupuncture known as distal acupuncture, sometimes referred to as:
  • Balance Method acupuncture
  • Master Tung acupuncture
  • Channel acupuncture
This classical approach is known for producing fast results, especially for pain relief.
Patients often notice improvement as soon as the first needles are placed.
While it is famous for pain treatment, this method is equally effective for:
  • Stress and emotional health
  • Digestive conditions
  • Hormonal imbalance
  • Immune system issues
  • Complex chronic conditions
Our approach combines ancient wisdom with modern clinical experience to create treatments that are both gentle and highly effective.
